Just Don't (Japanese: やめておけ) is the eighteenth episode of Osomatsu-san Season 3 (68th episode overall).

This is the first episode and the second segment (after Unit Formed) to star Nyaa Hashimoto as the lead. The name of the episode comes from the phrase uttered by most of the cast members towards (or more accurately, against) her new-found feelings towards Osomatsu Matsuno, the eldest of the Matsuno siblings.

Osomatsu-san Episode 68 01.52

Osomatsu saves Nyaa's baby

One day, Nyaa Hashimoto plays with her baby in the park next to the lake, when her baby accidentally slips and is about to fall into the lake. Fortunately someone saves the baby, who turns out to be Osomatsu. For the rest of the day, Nyaa observes Osomatsu (who get drunk with beer) remotely, until Jyushimatsu and Todomatsu comes and brings Osomatsu home.

Back at her home, Nyaa asks Totoko about Osomatsu, and is surprised to know he's the eldest instead of the youngest of the sextuplets, because of his childishness. Totoko quickly becomes annoyed when Nyaa expresses favourable interest in Osomatsu. Upon hearing this, Dobusu (who's also there) comments how "ordinary" boys are boring compared with "pieces of shit", and proceeds to declare that "love is not logical".

Totoko about to alert Osomatsu's brothers

Indeed, Nyaa's feeling quickly escalates to a wild crush when Totoko tries fiercely to dissuade her. Knowing that she cannot convince Nyaa alone, Totoko quickly writes a letter and shoots it with an arrow message (Japanese: 矢文) to the Matsuno House. The arrow narrowly misses Jyushimatsu.

While Osomatsu is not in the room, the rest of them read the message seeing Totoko's fish signature. As Choromatsu holds the message motionless, and his face is not shown, the others quickly agree to take immediate action.

"I-matsu" and "T-matsu" break down in tears

Soon, Karamatsu, Ichimatsu, Jyushimatsu and Todomatsu storm into Nyaa's house, and after a quick self-introduction, shout in unison: "Regarding our eldest brother, just don't!" When Nyaa is doubtful of this, they promptly produce a whole pile of documents describing the bad behaviour of Osomatsu. Karamatsu also hosts an interview with Ichimatsu (alluded as I-matsu) and Todomatsu (alluded as T-matsu) on how bad Osomatsu is. Meanwhile, Jyushimatsu enlists the analysis of the Riceball Twins to show the infeasibility of developing a relationship with Osomatsu – the robots end up exploding. Chibita and Hatabo are also called to testify, and Matsuz] and Matsuyo drive a sound truck to announce their disapproval (Matsuzō even refers Nyaa's baby to indicate that Osomatsu will be a bigger burden to Nyaa).

When Nyaa scowls at everyone's behaviour, Choromatsu suddenly enters, visibly shaken to a point that he vomits blood. He pleads "Nyaa-chan" not to love Osomatsu, but Nyaa accuses him of addressing her affectionately despite this is their "first direct encounter". Choromatsu is particularly struck by his idol's direct rejection, and immediately screams and runs out of the apartment. All his brothers present are in tears as a result. Annoyed, Nyaa asks everyone to go. Totoko brings the remaining brothers to her house, where they devise a "reverse Cupid" operation.

Choromatsu embarks an overseas trip to rediscover himself and to forget his memory of Nyaa, first visiting Varanasi and then get arrested in Egypt by imitating Osomatsu (to become popular). On both occasions, a cat visits him, triggering his memory of Nyaa and makes him mad immediately. Meanwhile, two housewives (Dekapan and Dayon in disguise) "gossip" on how bad Osomatsu is, while Iyami presents himself in front of Nyaa, declaring himself "as bad as Osomatsu". Nyaa promptly pushes Iyami into the river, to the annoyance of Totoko and the other four brothers, who watch in a distance.

Osomatsu asks Nyaa who she is

The five decide that the best way to make Nyaa reject Osomatsu is to set them up on a mixer. Osomatsu is late because he's winning at pachinko, and he also does not brush his hair. During the mixer, he not only commits gross acts against his brothers, he also tries to hug both Totoko and Nyaa out of no reason (only to be stopped by Totoko and his brothers' usage of violence). Eventually, he realizes that he doesn't know Nyaa, and proceeds to ask who she is. All these acts only serve to enhance Nyaa's attraction to him.

Everyone pales out when Nyaa accepts Osomatsu's date offer

After knowing each other, Osomatsu teases Nyaa for being shy, and proceeds to ask her out for a date. To the surprise of everyone (including Osomatsu himself), Nyaa accepts the offer.

Choromatsu, at the same time, is living a prehistoric life in a jungle.

Back at home, the other brothers lament on how terrible conduct goes unpunished, while Osomatsu hides himself under the couch. Todomatsu quickly finds out that Osomatsu is scared of the prospect of actually having a date, and all the brothers denounce him when he asks one of them to go in his place. Eventually, Karamatsu declares that they have expressed enough resentment, and that he understands Osomatsu's feeling and will take up Osomatsu's offer. However, the other brothers quickly stop him and offer to go one by one. They end up having a fight with each other, announcing their desire to go on a date themselves.

Osomatsu and Totoko at Chibita's oden stand

Osomatsu goes to Chibita's oden stand and starts to self-reflect. Totoko also arrives and says something before leaving, apparently in tears. Back at home, Osomatsu does not sleep (his four remaining brothers do), while Nyaa excitedly chooses the clothes to wear the next day.

As the morning sets in, Nyaa suddenly wakes up in a surprised look. At the park, she resumes her casual outfit, apologizing to a formally suited Osomatsu before running away. Osomatsu throws himself into the lake without a word.

A cat joins in the animals listening to Choromatsu

Meanwhile, Choromatsu dons an outfit of a Buddhist monk and plays a harp in a more temperate forest, surrounded by all kinds of animals. Another cat joins in the crowd and Choromatsu sees it, but instead of going insane, he simply smiles.

Trivia[]

  • This episode breaks from the previous two seasons' practice of starring Iyami in a season's episode 18.
  • Most Osomatsu-san fans ship Nyaa Hashimoto with either Choromatsu or Ichimatsu, the former because of his infatuation with the girl as idol, and the latter because of his affiliation of cats, which is the theme adopted by Nyaa. This episode explicitly rejects the Choromatsu-Nyaa shipping, while instead suggests that Osomatsu, who is "a piece of shit", is more likely to attract her. At the end of the episode, the Osomatsu-Nyaa shipping setup is also rejected.
  • Todomatsu addresses himself as Totty throughout the episode, including his formal self-introduction to Nyaa as well as when he declares to know what Osomatsu is thinking when he hides himself under the couch.
  • Osomatsu's behaviour during the mixer, as well as his reaction upon being rejected, is similar to the season 2 segment Osomatsu and Todomatsu.
  • In the previous episode, Choromatsu did not recognize the "cute lady" next to Totoko was Nyaa. This gag is played again in this episode:
    • Osomatsu does not recognize Nyaa as she changes her outlook across their different encounters.
    • Nyaa "returns" Choromatsu's "favor" by telling Choromatsu that their conversation is "their first encounter".
  • Choromatsu's poetry in the Egyptian prison is another replication of feats done in the previous episode.
  • Two segments have no audible dialog despite characters are shown speaking:
    • At the first scene, only Osomatsu's beer burp and the laughter of Nyaa and her baby are audible. Todomatsu's criticism on Osomatsu is muted.
    • Osomatsu's self-reflection is entirely muted. Totoko has given a speech at Chibita's oden stand, and seems to cry as she leaves, but what she has actually said is not revealed.
